Student-athletes around the country celebrated National Signing Day for all sports except football, on Thursday, Nov. 11, including four St. Luke’s seniors who signed their own National Letters of Intent (NLI).
The NLI is a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete and an NLI member institution. A prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the institution full-time for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters). The institution agrees to provide financial aid to the athlete for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters).
In addition, senior Ethan Xia (
University of Pennsylvania – crew) received a “Likely Letter,” as is the custom for Ivy League schools. Ivies do not provide NLIs to their recruited athletes. That said, it is a huge honor and the result of incredibly hard work for a student-athlete to receive a Likely Letter from an Ivy League school.
Students, faculty, and staff attended a ceremony inside Carey Gymnasium to honor and support the five student-athletes.
A number of student-athletes from St. Luke’s Class of 2023 have committed verbally to institutions. We look forward to bringing more news on those student-athletes in the coming months.
